Production Team

Ruth Livier RUTH LIVIER (CREATOR/EXECUTIVE PRODUCER/WRITER)Ms. Livier founded her production company, Livier Productions, Inc. with the goal of creating Hispanic driven projects to fill an existent market gap. With this aim in mind, Ruth created YLSE, a quirky AWARD-WINNING bicultural dramedy web series now in it’s second season.

In addition to YLSE, Livier Productions, Inc. previously created, wrote and produced BECA, a bilingual game show, which was quickly invited to tour with Edward James Olmos’ LBFF. Among BECA’s celebrity guests were Tony Plana (UGLY BETTY), Dave Foley (KIDS IN THE HALL) Florinda Meza (CHESPIRITO) and Nicholas Gonzalez (THE OC, MENTAL) and IN MY SHOES a ‘The View” style pilot featuring diverse Latinas. Her powerful cast included: Yasmin Davidds (author/Latina empowerment specialist), Sibila Vargas (entertainment correspondent/anchor for CNN) and Oscar-nominated documentary producer Vivianne Nacif (The Garden).

Most recently, Ms. Livier was hired to produce a PSA for the DRE & the state of California featuring Attorney General Jerry Brown. Ruth is currently in re-writes for her feature film script LA INVENTORA DE TALPA, JAL., a fantastical love story inspired by real events.

Ruth is a participant in the UCLA Anderson School of Management’s Latino Leadership Institute, she is an alumnus of Jeff Gordon’s Writers’ Bootcamp and she currently studies with the incomparable Jeffrey Tambor. She’s a founding member of INSIDE OUT, a successful after-school program for at risk youth (www.insideoutca.org). Ruth has been a keynote speaker at the LATINA YOUTH CONFERENCE and the HISPANIC LIFESTYLE CONFERENCE, a presenter at the NAMIC and the IMAGEN awards, MC’d several events including the TEJANO MUSIC Awards with Tony Plana and the NALIP conference with Cristian de la Fuente and Nicholas Gonzalez. Stephanie Wiand STEPHANIE WIAND (WRITER/PRODUCER)Stephanie Wiand is a writer, producer and actress, who recently completed filming the feature, Revenge of the Bimbot Zombie Killers, an independent, Sci-fi/Action/Comedy that she co-wrote, produced and starred in. “Bimbots” is scheduled for release in 2010, and features a full-scale production number with the original song, “Stormin’ Down the Watchtower,” with lyrics by Stephanie. Over the past several years, Stephanie has become more involved in Web/New Media projects.
She recently completed production as a writer/producer on the second season of Ylse, a bilingual/bicultural comedy that stars series creator, Ruth Livier (Showtime’s Resurrection Blvd.). Past projects include being a part of the writing staff and cast for the 2006 PARSEC Award-winning podcast, Virgin Falls, and the telenovela spoof, Pasiones Obsesionantes (Haunting Passions), both available on iTunes and YouTube. She also voiced four characters on Electric Farm Entertainment’s hugely successful, animated Web series, Afterworld, which was a 2008 TV Guide Online Video Award Nominee for Best Animated Series, and a 12th Annual Webby Awards Nominee for Drama: Series.
Scenes Through the Bathroom Window, Stephanie’s original play for women, played off-off Broadway at the Creative Voices Theatre, and in Los Angeles at the Eclectic Company Theater. At the Eclectic, where “Scenes” played to sold-out audiences, Stephanie garnered critical acclaim as “an invigorating new voice,” and the play was praised as “one of the most thought-provoking and entertaining plays to come to NoHo.”
Joe Camareno JOE CAMARENO (DIRECTOR/PRODUCER) Joe is an award winning director whose screen credits include YLSE, PASIONES OBSESIONANTES (HAUNTING PASSIONS) and the upcoming REVENGE OF THE BIMBOT ZOMBIE KILLERS. He is also an award winning producer of the stage, with a focus on new plays. His talent in selecting original works has lead to an impressive canon of plays which have been well received by audiences and critics alike, including the critically-acclaimed UNSINKABLE BISMARCK, EXMAGARE and 2007’s LOST ANGELES, which he also directed for New York City’s American Studio Theatre at The Lillian in Hollywood, CA. LOST ANGELES is slated for a big screen version with production scheduled for spring 2011 with Camareno at the helm. A pioneer in new media and podcasting, his award winning podcast VIRGIN FALLS won Best Audio Production at the 2006 Dragon*Con. Herbert Siguenza HERBERT SIGUENZA (WRITER)A founding member of CULTURE CLASH along with members Richard Montoya and Ric Salinas they have become the most produced Latino theatre group in the nation. Their original stage work has always been hard-hitting, commercial yet political, professional yet risky, a fusion that’s theatrical, comedic and filmic. They have a style of their own with a foundation that hearkens back to the best of vaudevillians of this country and of Latin America. Comedy and satire is what they feed on, in the tradition of Lenny Bruce, the Marx Brothers, Charlie Chaplin and Cantinflas. They have performed at South Coast Repertory, the Mark Taper Forum, Los Angeles Theatre Center, The Arena Stage, The Goodman Theatre, The Alley Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, the Japan American Theatre, as well as Off-Broadway, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center. They have played every major university and colleges throughout the country. Some of their award winning plays include Water and Power, Chavez Ravine, Zorro in Hell, Radio Mambo, Bordertown and A Bowl of Beings. Mr. Siguenza also wrote a starred in Cantinflas!, a tribute to the late Mexican comic icon.

On TV and film front: Chavez Ravine was selected for the HBO US Comedy Arts Festival. In 1992, A Bowl of Beings premiered on PBS’s Great Performances’ series. For Fox Broadcasting they set a milestone for Latinos with 30 episodes of Culture Clash, the first ever Latino-themed half-hour sketch comedy for TV that was executive produced and written by its stars. The group co-produced, co-wrote, and starred in an award-winning 1992 short film entitled Columbus on Trial directed by Lourdes del Portillo. Recently, Mr.Siguenza was a writer for Univision’s Mas Vale Tarde late night talk show. He will also write the next series of webisodes for YLSE.

MARLENE FORTE (DIRECTOR) With a name like Marlene Forte, one can expect to meet a woman of great strength and determination, armed with a wicked sense of humor and blessed with a certain fiery Latin charisma. Marlene wears her moniker quite well. The talented Cuban native has carved her path in front of the cameras one tour de force at a time. A founding member of LAByrinth Theater Company in NYC, Marlene studied acting at Lee Strasberg, but credits her acting chops to the L.A.B. (Latino’s Acting Base) LAByrinth’s original name.

On stage, Forte has completed successful runs of such plays like the Pulitzer Prize winning ANNA IN THE TROPICS at Portland Center Stage, Luis Alfaro’s HERO at Studio/Stage and OEDIPUS EL REY at The Getty Villa, and the hilarious cabaret ROCIO: IN SPITE OF IT ALL at The King King Nightclub in Hollywood, penned by her husband Oliver Mayer. Although she loves the theater, Forte carries a TV dossier that may rival some of the most prolific working actors in LA. 

This coming August you catch Ms Forte as “Tatita” in the new Lifetime TV Movie of the Week (MOW), LITTLE GIRL LOST: THE DELIMAR VERA STORY. Based on a true story, this MOW is written by Christopher Canan and Maria Nation and directed by Paul A Kaufman. Some of her other television credits include LOST, LINCOLN HEIGHTS,THE UNIT, CSI, NIP/TUCK, CSI MIAMI, CROSSING JORDAN, LAW AND ORDER and even worked with the Oscar winning director Paul Haggis on FAMILY LAW! She just finished production on J.J. Abrams’ STAR TREK prequel where she plays the Chief Transporter. On film she is known for her lead role in the independent movie LENA’S DREAMs, which she co-produced; Ms Glass in REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES; Kerri Washington’s mom in Jim McKay’s OUR SONG, Mrs. LopeFraWitz in GLOWROPES, and Alfredo DeVilla’s ADRIFT IN MANHATTAN just released for rental!


A.J. Rickert-Epstein A.J. RICKERT-EPSTEIN (DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY/CAMERA OPERATOR) He was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and has been making films since he was 8 years old. He attended Lakota West High School and graduated as a Junior at the age of 16. After that, he went on to attend Miami University of Ohio, graduating by the age of 20 with a bachelors degree. While attending Miami University, A.J. started the first active student filmmaking organization on campus and pulled in over $30,000 dollars in funding to get it off the ground. It was called the Miami Association of Filmmakers and Independent Actors or (M.A.F.I.A.) and is still thriving today in his absence. Since moving to Los Angeles, A.J. has DPed, Directed, and Edited a wide range of feature films, music videos, commercials, and short films. Recently, the teaser trailer to his first feature film effort, FINGERMAN: DR. LONDON AND THE TRIANGLE FORCE was chosen out of nearly 15,000 submissions and appeared in a 30 second promotional commercial for Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett’s reality television series ON THE LOT. It played during AMERICAN IDOL, ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER and FAMILY GUY – shows with a combined total nearing an average of 50 million viewers. STEPHEN MURRAY (EDITOR/CAMERA B) An award-winning writer/director and editor, Mr. Murray has a long history of collaboration with Ylse cinematographer AJ Rickert-Epstein. Last year, the two of them brought their talents behind the camera to cult director Larry Blamire’s feature films Lost Skeleton Returns Again and Dark and Stormy Night. Stephen is currently directing a new comedic webseries that will premiere online this fall.
CHRISTIAN LOHF (FIRST ASSISTANT DIRECTOR) Christian Lohf (a.k.a. “Colonel”) is an accomplished 1st Assistant Director with over a decade of experience on feature films, tv shows, and music videos. In addition, he writes/directs his own projects and is currently in pre-production on his own short film. He is extremely passionate about independent film production and sites his involvement with Ylse- Season 2 as “one of the highlights of my career. I am proud to have been a part of such a special project, with such a wonderful cast and crew.
KATIE BETIAN (HAIR/MAKEUP) Katie is a native Southern California girl – a minority in this city. She has been working as a freelance makeup artist and hair stylist for the last 5 years. She has worked on commercials, editorials, features, short films, award shows and works with STARZ and ENCORE on a regular basis. As well as, working with celebrity clientele, she does volunteer makeup services for women recovering from breast cancer and graduates of counseling programs for victims of domestic violence. She feels makeup is meant to have a positive outcome, so why not share it.
ISABEL MANDUJANO (WARDROBE) A costume designer and wardrobe stylist for film, television, and music video, Isabel Mandujano has a passion for working very closely with directors to help capture their vision in costume. Known for being a quick thinker and efficient problem solver she strives to be a value to any crew she’s a part of. She is currently based in Los Angeles, CA.
ANDY GEORGES (COMPOSER/MUSIC) Composer/Songwriter Andy Georges is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Georges is in demand for session and composing work with artists such as Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Maia Sharp, and film composer Alex Wurman. He has contributed his playing and composing abilities to the scores of several motion pictures, including “Play It to the Bone,” “Eat Your Heart Out,” and “Sleep Easy Hutch Rimes.” For the soundtrack of the latter film, he also wrote and performed an original song, “Follow Me Home.”

In recent news, look for the film directed by David Schwimmer and starring Simon Pegg called “Run Fatboy Run” out on DVD where you’ll hear a very romantic Georges tune called “Be My Love.” You can also download the song off of his myspace page. Andy has also placed a song in the new film “My Life In Ruins” starring Nia Vardalos and produced by Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson currently in theaters. Andy just completed recording additional music for composer Alex Wurman to be used in the HBO biopic about Temple Grandin, an autistic genius, due out in winter of 2009.

JAY GOLDEN (SOUND MIXER) Freelance sound mixer/boom operator. I enjoyed the production of Ylse and I’m proud of the sound work I did. Most of the recording was done with a single mic. It was a challenge sometimes, but the atmosphere on set allowed me to do my best.
